Rockstar finally releases the enhanced version of GTA 5 for PC: here's all that's changed

12 years after its original release, GTA 5 returns with an enhanced version.

The Grand Theft Auto series is one of the most renowned in the video game industry, so the wait for GTA 6, the new installment that should be released at some point yet to be determined in 2025, is at its peak to find out what Rockstar can do to make a leap in quality compared to their previous works, which already bordered on excellence. For the time being, it is expected to arrive in the autumn of this year, something that Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has continued to emphasize. However, the North American company still had a surprise in store before making the definitive leap to the next installment.

Because before the official launch of GTA 6, its predecessor still had one more step to take in the video game industry. There is no doubt that Rockstar Games has been able to exploit GTA 5's capabilities to the fullest, as since its official release in 2013, it has not stopped offering new versions to allow players to fully enjoy the best-selling video game of the modern era in the sector. Therefore, after its arrival on current generation consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, there was still the arrival of this version with improved graphics on PC, which is now available through the usual digital platforms.

A further demonstration of the tremendous journey that GTA 5 has taken since its launch, managing to attract hundreds of millions of players to delve into its immense offering and adding various improvements beyond the multiplayer aspect with GTA Online. The arrival of GTA 5: Enhanced Edition on PC finally completes the 12-year cycle in which gamers have been able to enjoy one of the games that will remain in the memory of the industry's history before moving on to the next chapter.

More than just a graphical upgrade for GTA 5

It is clear that the release of GTA 5: Enhanced Edition is intended to offer a visual improvement to a game that has been on the market for more than a decade since its official release. As such, this version adds support for technologies such as AMD FSR and Nvidia DLSS, ray tracing effects and higher overall visual quality so that players can experience completely different sensations in their adventures through Los Santos, the city in which the title is set. All of this is completely free of charge for those who already own the original PC version of the game.

However, it's not all about graphical improvements and a noticeable acceleration in loading times, as there are also various additions in terms of content. In this regard, GTA 5: Enhanced Edition offers new vehicles, as well as the PC debut of the new Hao's Special Works workshop, located at the Los Santos Car Club, where a selection of vehicles can be upgraded for enhanced performance that takes full advantage of this version's powerful capabilities. As a result, those who love driving and racing in GTA 5 will be able to enjoy some very enticing new content.

There are also other minor changes such as new options for those who want to enjoy the wildlife, as they can delight in the animal ecosystem, with wild animal encounters and the daily Animal Photography challenge available at the Los Santos tourist office in the Mount Chiliad nature park. In addition, this version also introduces some menu navigation improvements to make exploring the game's options more fluid.

A new dimension for fans with mod support

One of the most celebrated revelations for the new PC version of GTA 5 is the official tool that provides mod support. This way, the game can be modified at the user's discretion to create different stories within the offering, as well as changing the appearance of characters or making all kinds of inventions within the game, which is commonplace for PC gamers. The fact that Rockstar has dedicated an exclusive studio just for this purpose demonstrates the great capabilities of the community to enjoy GTA in thousands of different ways.

For the moment, it's unknown whether the same steps will be followed with the arrival of GTA 6, but what seems clear is that the North American studio is committed to offering the best possible experience to its PC users. It's worth noting that the arrival of GTA 6 on PC will take place at a later date than its landing on consoles, something that is common in Rockstar Games' developments, so it's possible that as an incentive for the wait, access to this official mod tool will be allowed to keep the game's role-playing community alive, one of the aspects that has been most successful in recent years.
