Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 returns to its roots with more realistic warfare

The latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise is the most significant title in the series in the last decade.

Call of Duty is one of the biggest licenses in the video game industry. Activision's first-person shooter franchise has offered different proposals year after year that have managed to win the public's favor, with almost every edition becoming the best-selling title. It’s one of the most profitable sagas, especially since the appearance of Call of Duty Mobile. However, the main installments are still the main attraction, and 2024 is set to mark a turning point in the industry.

One of the big issues of the last few years has been Microsoft's turbulent purchase of Activision Blizzard King, which was finally approved last year. As such, the arrival of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 marks a new milestone for the franchise as the first game to arrive under the Xbox Game Studios label, launching on the Xbox Game Pass service. However, it’s also coming to PlayStation consoles as a result of an agreement between the two companies, marking a new era for one of the most important franchises in the gaming industry and the shooter genre.

Gulf War to connect with Black Ops 2

With the number of titles in the Call of Duty series, it seems that making an impression with something new would be difficult. However, Activision intends for Black Ops 6 to be the biggest game changer in the franchise's history, something that’s determined by entirely new mechanics that aim to change the gameplay experience in a superlative way. However, its main attraction will be the campaign, something gamers have been yearning for for years and which has been the weak point of the last few new games to hit the market.

As such, Black Ops 6 returns to one of the most successful timelines in the entire Call of Duty franchise, following the events of Black Ops 2 after the Cold War and offering missions centered on the colossal Gulf War. To this end, Activision has created a story that allows players to explore all possible options with Frank Woods and other familiar characters from the franchise returning this time around. The realism will reach such heights that there will even be a mission in which the player will have to travel to Iraq to find Saddam Hussein's palace. One of the great features of this game is that each mission will be unique and will have a different construction.

As if this weren’t enough, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is also committed to adapting to the times and to mechanics that have been successful in other current titles. As such, a new scrolling system is introduced with completely revamped animations to make gameplay much smoother. In addition, enemies are also added to each of the maps with different roles to make things more difficult and provide a much more complete experience in each of the missions of the main campaign. With Activision promising action-packed, epic moments that will stay in the memories of Call of Duty fans, the new game is set to be one for the ages.

Multiplayer remains a major asset

While a compelling campaign is critical to the success of a new Call of Duty, multiplayer is the one thing that lasts throughout the year to give continuity to the game. While Call of Duty Warzone already does this, Activision doesn't want to forget about the yearly installment to give people enough reason to pick up Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and enjoy it with their friends. To do so, the company has taken one of the decisions most requested by the community: Return to one of its past systems.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 brings back the classic prestige system. Players will be able to ascend through the 55 base levels, making it possible to journey through 10 prestiges, each of which completely resets the armory, offering a constantly evolving gameplay system that allows for different and varied games. At the same time, sixteen different maps are included to start the multiplayer journey: Twelve of them focused on the 6v6 experience, while another four are for the close combat modes. Therefore, there will be more than enough options at launch, which will be expanded throughout the year, such as the Zombies mode.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is a game set to lay the foundations for the future of the brand now that it’s in the hands of Microsoft. This time around, optimal time has been spent on the development of the new installment, without the classic rush for an annual title that brings a fresh dose of action. The care that has been put into this new title is remarkable, and may mark a turning point for what’s to come in the next few years. An evolution of the franchise in the right direction.
