Star Wars revives its classic games to revive the most galactic of wars

The Star Wars Battlefront saga returns in its classic format to recapture the essence of two of the titles that left gamers feeling the best.

Star Wars is one of the biggest franchises in history. The galactic adventure created by George Lucas has continued to expand over the decades, with a presence in cinema, television, and other audiovisual scenarios. Of course, in the world of video games it has also had a great run through a wide variety of proposals. Some revisit the events of the films themselves, while others generate completely new stories, as in the case of its latest title, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

However, galactic battles tend to occupy much of the content that makes its way into video games, and the 2000s saw one of the Star Wars-related releases that made the biggest impact on gamers. The Battlefront sub-series was born with the idea of introducing the user to the Clone Wars environment with the different scenarios of the planets that populate the universe of the franchise, as well as different combat units and, of course, the possibility of controlling the famous Jedi and Sith knights in a fight to defeat the enemy side with large doses of action.

The story of Star Wars as you've never been told before

Considering the fact that Star Wars is one of the most legendary works in history, its projection is colossal to tell events beyond what can be seen in the movies. The Battlefront sub-saga fulfils this purpose, offering a vision that wraps up certain events between the first four numbered episodes of the main saga, through war events between the Resistance and Empire sides. Of course, the player can choose sides to control whichever side they want at any given time.

Although Electronic Arts sought to rescue the essence of the series with a reinvention that took into account the new projects that were currently being developed, both in the cinema and on streaming platforms, its conception didn't forget the positive sensations produced by the two original titles. The release of the first Battlefront, in the interim period between the release of Episode II and Episode III was crucial in generating this huge impact, with the presence of the Clone Wars as its main ally.

This allowed players to explore hidden episodes in that great conflict, one of the greatest that the Star Wars franchise has ever seen, controlling some of the most illustrious characters in a fierce fight against the opposing team and against time. In addition, the presence of a multiplayer mode in split-screen or online for up to 64 players provided players with great moments to enjoy with their friends while reliving epic battles and inventing new chapters in the history of a franchise that lived its second golden age with the modern trilogy.

A classic collection for the nostalgic

In light of this memory and the limited impact that the resurrection of the franchise managed to generate in the past decade, Electronic Arts is re-releasing the original titles in a collection that includes Star Wars: Battlefront and Star Wars: Battlefront II so that nostalgic gamers can experience the same feeling of the era, even though three console generations have passed since then and gameplay has been transformed to the point of rendering both titles obsolete.

With revamped graphics, Battlefront Classic Collection also includes all of the additional content that was released in the epic to expand the experience of both titles. Star Wars: Battlefront is accompanied by the Jabba's Palace map, which was exclusive to the first Xbox. Star Wars: Battlefront II includes Instant Action, Galactic Conquest, and the Rise of the Empire campaign mode, which puts players in the shoes of the 501st Legion under the command of Anakin Skywalker (Clone Wars and Episode III) and Darth Vader (original trilogy). A fantastic compendium complete with the maps Bespin: Cloud City, Rhen Var: Harbor, Rhen Var: Citadel, and Yavin 4: Arena, as well as the characters Kit Fisto and Asajj Ventress, which were also exclusive to Xbox.

This collection demonstrates that great classics never die and that sometimes remasters and remakes in the gaming industry don't serve to overshadow the great sensations left by the original titles on which they’re based. The return of Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is proof of this, as well as the franchise's versatility in continuing to explore new options in the gaming industry while also having the luxury of bringing together legendary works such as Battlefront itself, The Force Unleashed saga, and Knights of the Old Republic, the remake of which has been officially announced.

The next big game to arrive in the universe of the saga will be Star Wars Outlaws, developed by Ubisoft. However, until that time comes, all PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and PC gamers can relive some of the best moments of their childhood or youth with Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection.
