The success of Arcane has also been a factor in making the new Season 12 come at one of the best times in the game’s history. The animated series is a huge hit on Netflix and has given the League of Legends franchise a new-found popularity.
With that said, the new season comes to close the circle by offering playable novelties that give gamers incentives to continue enjoying the game throughout the year while they wait for more new releases from Riot Games.
The new, upgraded features do a great job of refreshing the experience of playing matches, but this time the developer has gone with quality over quantity. Don’t panic, though, because this is actually good news.
The upgrades are very noticeable when playing matches, allowing much more creativity in certain areas of the map. The new dragons are particularly striking and cause really cool effects on characters.
This one’s called Chemtech Dragon*, and it can turn characters that venture into its areas of the map invisible. It can also revive players every time they die, making them the stuff of horrors for the enemy team.
Then there’s another new monster. Called Hextech Dragon*, it gives players chain lightning when they strike rivals, as well as the ability to teleport around the map, in a clear nod to the Arcane portals.
In addition, Riot Games has introduced a whole new customisation system to revamp the outdated League of Legends client. It’ll be added to the game over the coming months.
In fact, the new features arriving in the coming months are some of the most interesting the developer has ever presented. Among them is a new character with which Riot Games wants to break the League of Legends mould once again.
Zeri is the name of LoL’s latest new addition. A marksman with spectacular, unique mechanics for taking down her enemies, she’s already become a favourite amongst bottom laners.
The champion was developed by one of the community’s favourite creators and aims to bring a feeling of a ‘shooter game’ to League of Legends with her machine gun-like attacks.
Riot’s idea was to transfer part of the essence of Valorant to LoL to combine its two great games in a very particular way. In fact, the creators of the shooter were all involved in the development in one way or another.
However, there will also be more to look forward to throughout the year, with new unique skin themes and even huge updates to old characters that have been in the game for ten years.
In short, Riot Games has brought out a whole assortment of new features to keep League of Legends interesting for another year and ensure those 180 million players keep coming back for more.
